Frequently Asked Questions

What type of paint/supplies do you use?

I use professional grade water-based acrylic paints on gallery-wrapped canvases with a protective varnish. The materials are non-toxic, quick-drying, and provide a professional finished product. For guest portraits, I use archival quality watercolor paper and professional-grade watercolor paints.

What’s the “day of” process?

I arrive early for set up and start by painting the chosen background for your artwork. I typically spend 6-8 hours at your venue where you and your guests will be able to see my work progress throughout the day. And then I’ll move to the reception area to continue painting, where I’ll have my own lighting (just in case) to continue working.

What size canvas/portraits do you create?

I use a variety of gallery-wrapped professional canvas sizes: 11” by 14”, 16” by 20”, and 18” by 24”. For guest portraits, I offer 5” by 7” archival quality watercolor paper.

When will I receive my wedding painting?

At the end of my painting session, I’ll be sure to let you see the nearly finished product, take any photos, and then I’ll take the painting to my studio for final touch ups and to apply the protective varnish. Your artwork will be shipped to you for your convenience within 4 weeks.

What will you need to set up at the venue?

My setup is minimal and doesn’t require a lot of space. I also don’t require any assistance from the venue (sometimes they ask). I simply need an area where I can be in view of your ceremony and a 5 ft x 5 ft space when you transition to your reception. I bring my own lighting and power banks in case the venue doesn’t have any accessible electrical outlets. For guest portraits, I need a table to set up at (usually the venue has this already).

Can you create a painting from my wedding using a photo?

Absolutely! I offer wedding painting commissions when I’m already booked for your date or for couples who would like to hire me after their wedding. I’ll walk you through my artwork guide to help you select the moment you’d like painted and create your new art piece in my studio.

How do we choose the scene you paint?

I provide an artwork guide after you book me that outlines all of the options/preferences to choose from. Some couples have a vision of the scene they want painted. But for those who need assistance, I make it incredibly easy to choose the scene and added details.

How do we book you?

You can reach out using my contact form to schedule a quick phone call with me. You can book me for your date with a 50% retainer and 50% due two months before your wedding date. You can add on a la carte options at any time before your wedding day. Depending on my schedule, additional paintings or add ons may be completed back in my studio.

How long have you been a wedding painter?

While this is my first year offering live wedding paintings, I’m an experienced artist who has also been a wedding and elopement photographer for 15 years. I have a Bachelor of Fine Art in painting and photography. I also taught art classes for years and have a Youtube Channel where I educate other artists. So I have a lot of experience working with venues, wedding couples, and creating art with audiences. I love sharing my passion for art and the outdoors with others!

What’s your painting style?

I have an impressionist style for live wedding paintings and guest portraits. I love to include vibrant colors and earth tones that reflect the Colorado landscape (and the vibrancy of your day).
